Taltal Mine Site

Las Luces Mine

Located in Antofagasta Region II, fifty kilometers southeast of the city of Taltal and eleven kilometers from the Las Luces Plant.

It has a nominal production of 65,000 tons per month. Its main infrastructure includes a main access ramp, ventilation shaft, access galleries to the drilling and transport levels, safety shelters, waste rock dump, offices, and workshops.

Altamira Mine

It is located 100 kilometers southeast of the city of Taltal and 88 kilometers from the Las Luces Plant, in Antofagasta Region II. Its main infrastructure includes a main access ramp, a ventilation shaft, access galleries to the drilling and transport levels, safety shelters, a waste dump, offices, workshops, and a camp.

It achieves a nominal production of 30,000 tons per month. The galleries are constructed using Boomer electro-hydraulic equipment at a rate of 200 meters per month.

Barreal Seco Mine

This is an open-pit copper oxide mine located ninety kilometers northeast of the city of Taltal, where 500,000 tons of material are extracted monthly.

Of the total extraction, 85,000 tons correspond to high-grade minerals that are sent to the Oxides Plant, located thirty-six kilometers west of the pit.

The mine is operated entirely by contractors, with Las Cenizas Mining Group responsible for planning, geology, and management of the operation.

Doña Elba 1 Mine

The surface mine is located 25 km southeast of the city of Taltal and 27 km from the Oxides Plant. The mine’s monthly production is projected to be 42,000 tons of ore with an average grade of 1.05% CuT, which means moving an average of 200,000 tons of material per month.

Location

It is located in the mining district of Taltal, south of the province of Antofagasta, in the II Region of Antofagasta.

Las Luces Concentrator Plant

Located thirty kilometers of the Camino a Cifuncho, forty-five kilometers south of the city of Taltal, it processes 99,000 tons of sulfide ore per month, with an average grade of 1.30% total copper and sixteen grams per ton of silver. The ore comes mainly from the Las Luces and Altamira underground mines, the Doña Elba open pit mine, and to a lesser extent from ore supplied through a maquila contract with the National Mining Company (Enami).

The plant uses seawater exclusively for its processes, which is pumped from the Bahía Lavata sector in the Cifuncho cove through a 7-km-long pressure line.

The plant obtains a final product of 50,000 tons of copper concentrate per year through the unitary processes of primary crushing, secondary/tertiary crushing, unitary grinding, flotation, thickening and filtering of copper concentrate, and thickening of tailings.

Oxides Plant

Located sixty kilometers southeast of the town of Taltal, at 850 meters above sea level. It processes 160,000 tons of oxidized ore per month, with grades above 0.50% total copper.

The plant obtains a final product of up to 15,000 tons of copper cathodes per year, through the unitary processes of crushing, ore agglomeration, heap leaching with sulfuric acid solutions, solvent extraction, and copper electro-winning.

The plant has an additional secondary leaching process, which allows it to treat and recover copper from leaching tailings.

POX (Oxides Plant) is mainly supplied by Barreal Seco and Mina Doña Elba, as well as by small mining producers who operate mines in the Taltal district, both from the Mining Group and from third parties.
