Participatory Environmental Monitoring of the Paste Tailings Disposal Project in the Mine Interior

What is MAP?
Participatory Environmental Monitoring, or MAP, is a voluntary commitment made by the Las Cenizas Mining Group to strengthen relationships of trust and transparency with the communities near its mining operations.
The implementation of this community participation model at Las Cenizas Mining Group Cabildo Mine Site allows community representatives to conduct on-site environmental monitoring of sampling for hydrology, hydrogeology, and paleontology monitoring of the In-Mine Paste Tailings Disposal Project (DEPIM).
The DEPIM project consists of the construction of a new system for the final disposal of paste tailings in various existing buildings inside the Cabildo Mine Site underground mine. It has already received favorable environmental approval, as stated in Environmental Qualification Resolution RCA No. 202305001187, issued by the Environmental Assessment Service.

Objective
• To monitor water quality through biweekly sampling in the event of an increase in flow during the construction of the works, with hydrology being understood as the monitoring of surface water.

Objective
• To validate over time the absence of water inflows from the paste tailings disposal area to the tributary streams that feed the La Ligua aquifer, understanding hydrogeology to mean the monitoring of groundwater.
• Detect variations outside the baseline condition of groundwater hydrochemistry in a timely manner and take the necessary control measures.
