To reviewing the progress of the work conducted at the hatchery located at the Las Cenizas Mining Group facilities, Raúl Silva, the Taltal District Operations Manager, welcomed Jocelyn Pizarro (Secretary), Cecilia Villazón (Treasurer), and Julio Herrera (Member) of the Fishermen’s Union.
During the meeting, previously established agreements were discussed, and progress made in the development of the aquaculture project was reviewed. Additionally, the Union has expressed interest in incorporating seed cultivation as part of the subsequent stages of the project.
“The meeting’s objective was to reactivate the hatchery and reestablish communication channels to ensure progress,” stated Raúl Silva, adding that “it was a very constructive meeting. They came with clearly defined goals and are returning the project to its original focus: producing oyster seeds for commercial use.”
The hatchery is a center for the cultivation of seeds from various marine species. It is used for the breeding, incubation, and reproduction of microalgae, scallops, and oysters. The aim of the Hatchery is to preserve and repopulate the local ecosystem.
